About Us

We are passionate about pomegranates and proudly producing fruit since 2010 on Bovenvlei – a West coast farm in the Swartland area of the Western Cape in SA. We take pride in producing and exporting our fruit to various northern hemisphere destinations. Working together as a team, we strive to be exceptional in all our endeavours to enable us to share only the highest quality pomegranate fruit and products with our valued consumers.

The Bovenvlei management team consists of a group of 5 motivated individuals with experience in diverse fields of agriculture and business. The farm owner and MD, Debbie Theunissen, a qualified food technician and now keen farmer, also serves as a board member of the Pomegranate Association of SA (POMASA). Our Technical expert works in close relation with the farm managers and dedicated orchard workers – all contributing to the successful optimising of yields and fruit quality every season.

Our Story

Bovenvlei pomegranate farm’s transition from vegetables to fruit production started in 2010 when an ambitious dream materialised, and the first 20 Ha pomegranate trees were planted.  Expansions then followed annually to have a current area of 70 Ha bearing trees in the ground and being one of the largest pomegranate farms in South Africa.

Our journey from establishing from scratch and developing our pomegranate farm so far has been blessed with many challenges and learning experiences – and still learning! Proud and thankful today to be able to see the fruition of hard work and dedication in the production of high-quality fruit, exported to European, the Middle East and other markets.

The Magic Crowned Fruit

The sacred fruit is known from ancient times as the symbol of life, wealth, fertility, prosperity, and wisdom.  It is the only fruit with a “crown” and this superfruit is sought-after for its nutritional and pharmaceutical health attributes due to its high antioxidant content. Pomegranate fruit seems complicated to eat, but by peeling it in the correct way and breaking through the tough skin you will enjoy the juicy, ruby-red seeds that lie underneath. In addition to their health qualities, they add flavour and colour to any dish while pure pomegranate juice is enjoyed as a refreshing elixir.
